About Department

Data science is the science of analyzing raw data using statistics and machine learning techniques with the purpose of drawing conclusions about that information. Data Science involves:

  • Statistics, computer science, mathematics
  • Data cleaning and formatting
  • Data visualization
The Department of Data Science is committed to foster a creative and innovative research environment and enjoys the full patronage of the Chairman, Vice- Chairman and the Director of the Raj Kumar Goel Institute of Technology (RKGIT) where it is housed presently. The competent and highly qualified faculty members are committed to help the students in improving and enhancing their analytical thinking ability and creativity, and in understanding the professional issues related to ethics, professional conduct, economics, societal needs and their role in the technologically globalized world.

“The best way to learn data science is to do data science.”

Data science engineering is a broad-spectrum and multidisciplinary field (e.g., natural sciences, information technology, and medicine). The subject implies scientific methods to find and understand patterns that are a given with big data. While many interdisciplinary subjects overlap with data science or use part of the techniques, the Data Science is interesting and can be a gateway to more professions.

About the Program

B.Tech in Data Science is a four-year undergraduate programme that provides the students an ability to design a hardware/software system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints:

  • Data Science students can lead in today’s workforce towards data analysis, understanding large amount of information and insights.
  • Data science is a very demanding field, and even freshers can draw a high annual salary package from top organizations after completing their degree.
  • Data Science course encourages students to become master in job-critical skills, including statistics, hypothesis testing, data mining, clustering, decision trees, linear and logistic regression, data wrangling, data visualization, regression models, recommendation engine, supervised and unsupervised learning and much more.

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) :

PEO-1 Develop and excel in Data science on technical front and progress towards innovation and Research.

PEO-3 Attaining leadership qualities with trust and professional ethics, proactive citizens for progress and overall welfare of the society.

Program Outcomes (POS)
  • PO1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • PO2. Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • PO3. Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • PO4. Conduct investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • PO5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • PO6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • PO7. Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • PO8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • PO9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • PO10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  • PO11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one's own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  • PO12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

  • PSO-1: : Understand, analyze and develop innovative solutions for real world problems in industry and research establishments related to Data Science and emerging fields.
  • PSO-2: Develop skills required for social interaction and ability to engage in lifelong learning for effective adaptation to technological developments.

  • Active Participation in Zonal Sports, Drone competition and The Dramatics Society organized by AKTU .

HOD Message

Dr. Vinish Kumar, Professor and Head in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering(Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) at Raj Kumar Goel Institute of Technology , Ghaziabad, U.P. is having more than 21 years of teaching, research and administrative experience. He has received his B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. His field of specialization is Software Engineering, Computer Organization and Architecture, Image Processing and Machine Learning. He has 13 publications in various SCOPUS / International/National journals and conferences of repute. He has Three Patent Publications and one Design Patents in his credit. He has supervised many post-graduates and under graduate scholars in the various phases of dissertations and projects. One student has been awarded Ph.D under his supervision. He has organized many National and International Conferences, Faculty Development Programs, Staff Development Program, Seminars and Workshops. He has Session the chair at various National and International Conferences. He is having the life time membership of various professional bodies Computer Society of India (CSI), The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT).
